Formula 2 is the final step on the FIA ladder to Formula 1, a series in which every element is built around identifying and promoting excellence.

The Dallara-built cars are the closest to Formula 1 in performance and engineering philosophy, with Mecachrome engines producing 620 horsepower. Pirelli tyres mirror the F1 approach, while races are longer than in the junior categories below and feature pit stops.

The series runs alongside Formula 1, and most F1 teams’ junior programmes have a strong presence in F2, allowing drivers and teams to perform in front of the leading figures of the F1 paddock.
